Who will win the Silver Camera 2010? What was the most outstanding Dutch news photo of the year? Will it be something to do with the new government, some spectacular image of the forces of nature, or something quite quirky and unpredictable? All will be revealed on 23 January, when the winner of the Silver Camera 2010 is announced. Whatever and whoever it is, the winner will receive the sum of EUR 5000.

The Canon Prize for Innovative Photojournalism (previously Dutch Photojournalist of the Year) will be awarded for the best example of photojournalism completed in 2010. Entries should be innovative in terms of journalistic approach or photographic technique, or indeed both. They may take the form of books, multimedia productions, exhibitions, or special features in newspapers or magazines. A special jury will shortlist three entries. The winner will receive a prize of EUR 5000 and each of the two runners-up a prize of EUR 1250.

The award ceremony will also include the presentation of a new prize: the Dutch National Portrait Prize is being awarded in collaboration with the Museum of National History of the Netherlands. It will go to the photographer judged to have produced the most outstanding portrait of a Dutch man or woman in the last year. The aim of the prize is both to encourage Dutch portrait photography and to create a new collection for the National Portrait Gallery.

Entries are not invited. The jury will use its own judgement in shortlisting works for consideration and in selecting the eventual winner (who will receive a sum of EUR 10,000).

All Dutch press photographers and foreign photographers working in the Netherlands are eligible to enter for the Silver Camera and its various sub-categories. Entries must be submitted via the Silver Camera website by midnight on 31 December. The deadline for the Canon Prize for Innovative Photojournalism is earlier: entries must arrive on or before 31 December.

Shortlisted entries will be announced on 12 January on the Silver Camera website: www.zilverencamera.nl. The final selection of the best news photo of 2010 will be made at the Hague Museum of Photography on the afternoon of Sunday 23 January. The name of the winner will be announced subsequently in the course of a glittering award ceremony at the museum.
