The competition is designed to encourage young people setting out to become professional photographers and to assist them at the start of their careers. This year there are two separate prize categories: final year photography students can compete for a first prize of 6,000 euros plus a commission from each of the contest’s two backers, while all other photography students can enter their work for a prize of 4,000 euros. The theme of this fifth annual prize competition is ‘A wonderful accident’. The deadline for entries is 28 December 2007. The fifty best entries in the two categories will be exhibited at the Hague Museum of Photography throughout the entire month of April. Entries will be judged by an independent jury of experts. The members of this year’s jury are: Rineke Dijkstra, photographer; Wim Melis, curator at Noorderlicht in Groningen; Hripsimé Visser, curator of photography at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and Adri de Vries, director of the SIRE organisation (which runs advertising campaigns on ethical issues).
