Co-create the collaborative artwork Beyond the Nuclear Family by writer and artist Mirthe Berentsen.

Since 2025, Berentsen has been travelling around in a covered wagon, which grows richer with every place she stops. The wagon is now on display in our museum as an invitation to reflect on different forms of family, living together, making art and caring for one another.

Workshop

Bring along a piece of fabric that tells a story about your family history. It could be anything: clothing, a handkerchief, kitchen textiles, baby clothes, a piece of old curtains. Big or small, beautiful or worn – it doesn’t matter. It’s all about the story behind it. Together, we’ll incorporate the pieces of fabric into the cover of the wagon. In this way, we’ll share materials, knowledge and traditions, and you’ll actively help to build a new story about the family. 

About the project

Beyond The Nuclear Family is part of the exhibition Eva Besnyö – The Liberated Camera. Berentsen's project takes inspiration from 1972 journey the Dutch feminist Dolle Mina collective made in a covered wagon, a journey Besnyö photographed. Learn more about Beyond The Nuclear Family.
